So you've been the latest victim of not updating your Operating system with Microsoft's patches. I know how annoying it can be to update, so many (Myself included) simply dont bother!

Here's the info and applications you need to fix this worm!

Firstly, to stop any shutdown's that may occur during this process (If and/or When you see the popup on your screen), click:

Start
-Run

Now, type in:
shutdown -a

This will stop your PC from shutting down for the time being!

The easiest way would be downloading Symantec's Worm Removal tool, Click HERE!

There is also a variant circulating called the W32.Welchia Worm which attempts to fix the MS.Blaster worm, getting onto your PC the same way that the MS.Blaster did.
It then attempts to contact Microsoft, download the patch, and will then sit on your PC attempting to find other PC's vulnerable to MS.Blaster.
It may be worth Clicking Here to download the Welchia worm removal tool, just to be safe!

Download this tool, run it, and go get a cuppa while it scan's your PC for any instances of the MSBlast worm it can find.
You do not have to be online while doing this, and it may be a good idea not to be online, or even on a network while running this, as your PC may reboot and in doing so will take you back to square one with the removal tool.

Once its done, the FixBlast tool will tell you the results of the search, and how it should have successfully removed the worm.

Now comes the part where you get to patch the whole in your PC! ("Oh Joy!" I hear you saying sarcastically)

The best way to do this is to goto Microsoft's Security Incident Bulletin Here. Download the appropriate file for your PC.

If you're running Windows XP, then you will most likely be wanting the 32, not the 64bit file!

Run the file to patch your PC, reboot, and you should be back to normal again.

While we're at it, it may be a good idea to goto a Free Online Virus Scanner and scan your PC for other worms, viruses and trojans.

A firewall can also assist in prevention of future worms, so a look at Zone Alarm wouldnt hurt!
